Born in Toronto, Ont., Shane Herbert attended Pickering Secondary School before joining the Laurier Golden Hawks in 2007.
In his first year, he managed to make the dress roster.
In 2008, he made his first start at boundary halfback but suffered an injury while making a tackle in a night game against Western which knocked him out of action for the rest of the season.
However, that setback didn’t deter him from coming back and being a key member of the defence for the next three seasons. The 6'2" defensive back played in 28 games from 2009 to 2011, making 52 solo and 12 assisted tackles with 26 passes defended.
His best season was in 2011 when he had three interceptions, including a 107-yard ‘pick six’ against Queen's.
In 2011, he received his bachelor’s degree in sociology.
Although he wasn’t selected in the CFL Draft, Herbert made the Toronto Argonauts as an undrafted free agent.
From 2013 to 2015, he played in 24 games for the Argos. He finished his career in 2016 playing for Saskatchewan and Hamilton.
Since his playing career ended, Herbert has put together an extensive and impressive resume in the private sector.
Initially starting as a Brand Specialist at Audi in 2017, he moved on to assume the role of District Manager for Cox Automotive Canada from 2019 to 2022.
He followed that up by working as a Field Account Executive for FedEx from 2022 to 2024.
He is currently a Group Consultant focusing on retirement planning and investment strategies. Presently residing in Burlington, Herbert is married and the proud father of two young children.
