Beyond February: Shamawd Chambers

Beyond February: Shamawd Chambers

Shamawd Chambers played wide receiver for Laurier from 2008 to 2011. He caught 123 passes for 15 touchdowns during the regular season, including a memorable performance on Homecoming in 2011 when he caught 8 passes for 201 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 51-16 victory over Ottawa. He was an OUA All-Star three times.

In 2012, he was the 6th overall pick in the CFL Draft. Selected by Edmonton, he won a Grey Cup in 2015 with the Elks and was also named the Most Valuable Canadian in that game.

Chambers also played for Saskatchewan and Hamilton. Injuries cut short his promising career and he retired in 2019 after catching 169 passes and scoring 8 touchdowns.

Chambers is currently a Performance Director at Big House Athletics, a high-performance training program for football and hockey players at the professional, university, and high school levels.

He also sits on the board of the Canadian High School Football Showcase. This not-for-profit organization offers scouting, recruitment, and opportunities for young athletes to help them get to the next level.

An investor and an entrepreneur, Chambers also owns and operates Out The Chamber Sports, a company that trains high-performance athletes.

Most importantly, Shamawd is the proud dad of a 5-year-old daughter.
