Daniel Bennett played football at Laurier from 2013 to 2017 after graduating from Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute in 2013.
Bennett also played football for the Scarborough Thunder.Â
He was a wide receiver who battled injuries his first two years on the team. Still, in his final three seasons, he played a significant role in catching 73 passes for 1,040 yards and seven touchdowns. That doesn’t include one of the best catches Golden Hawks fans have ever seen: a stellar, leaping one-handed TD catch against McMaster in Laurier's 2015 playoff victory that was nullified due to a penalty.Â
In 2015, Bennett threw and completed a 49-yard pass. Â
Daniel was part of the 2016 Yates Cup Championship team that featured a stellar receiving group of Kurleigh Gittens Jr., Brentyn Hall, Carson Oullette, Marcus Arkarakas, and Brendan McCracken. Â
Twice in his career (both times against Western), he was selected as the offensive player of the game.
After graduating from Laurier, Bennett worked with the East Scarborough Boys and Girls Club as a youth outreach worker. After that, he was employed at York University in Recruitment and Admissions while coaching part-time with the varsity football team.Â
Currently residing in Pickering, Daniel is a Recruitment & Engagement Specialist for Cape Breton University. His focus is enhancing brand awareness within high schools, supporting MBA initiatives, sponsoring events, and playing a crucial role in fostering partnerships with Ontario colleges.
