Beyond February: Dillon Campbell

Dillon Campbell is Laurier football's all-time leading rusher. 

He played high school ball at St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School in Whitby and joined the Golden Hawks in 2011.

Campbell only rushed for 132 total yards in his first two seasons but, starting in 2013, he exploded onto the OUA scene with 867 yards as a junior and then finished with two consecutive seasons of over 1,500 yards on the ground. 

In 2014, he was the OUA MVP, averaging 7.6 yards per carry with 1,592 yards and 14 touchdowns. 

In his final season, he rushed for 1,524 yards, including over 280 yards in leading Laurier to a 29-15 upset over McMaster in the first round of the OUA playoffs. 

Campbell was the team MVP for three consecutive years from 2013 to 2015.  He was an OUA second-team all-star in 2013 and a first-team all-star in 2014 and 2015. 

In those same two years, he was also a first-team All-Canadian.

Campbell was drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts. After briefly spending some time in Toronto, Montreal, and Saskatchewan, Campbell’s professional career ended in 2017. 

In 2020, he was inducted into the Golden Hawks Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. In 2024, Campbell was inducted into the Legends of Laurier Football. 

Since then, Campbell has travelled extensively, spending significant amounts of time in Thailand and Australia. 

Currently, Campbell is working in a supervisory role in the mining industry in Western Australia.
