Kwaku Boateng was a high-profile recruit from Milton, Ont. who started making an impact immediately on the defensive line as a freshman for Laurier in 2013.
He was named to the OUA's all-rookie team in his first year and continued to be a dominant pass rusher for the next three seasons. He recorded 29.5 career sacks to become Laurier's all-time sack leader. He also had seven forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
Boateng was a key member of Laurier's 2016 Yates Cup championship team which featured over a dozen defensive players who ended up getting some time in the CFL.
On the field, he was a two-time All-Canadian and the 2015 J.P. Metras Trophy winner. He was inducted into the Golden Hawks Hall of Fame in 2021.
Off the field, he was a four-time Academic All-Canadian, earning an Honours BBA. He graduated with distinction and was a member of the Dean’s List.
In 2017, he was drafted by Edmonton in the CFL. He was the team's rookie of the year and two-time Most Outstanding Canadian nominee. Over four seasons in Edmonton, he had 26 sacks, including 10 in 2018 and eight in 2019. Boateng’s career was cut short due to injury and he retired from the CFL in July 2023. He recently joined the Laurier football coaching staff as a defensive line coach.
In 2019, he founded Sacks for Racks, a sports training institution that has helped develop athletes for the past four years. Boateng also uses this organization to promote financial literacy and, in the future, he will offer his services as an agent for athletes when they turn professional.
Boateng is also the President of Boateng Financial Solutions and the Director of Operations of Black Star Properties.
