Beyond February: Daishane Johnson

Daishane Johnson profile photoDaishane Johnson was a football star in high school at John Paul II Catholic Secondary School in London who excelled at running back, wide receiver, and tight end.

He led his team to a city championship at the junior level and won a London-area MVP award in the process.

Upon joining the Golden Hawks in 2015, he moved to defensive back and was a member of the team until 2019. He cites the 2016 Yates Cup Championship victory over his hometown Western Mustangs as the highlight of his career.

His best game statistically speaking at WLU was a five-tackle performance in a thrilling 53 to 50 overtime victory over Tre Ford and the Waterloo Warriors in 2019.

He had 39 career tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, and a blocked kick during his career at Laurier.

During university, he volunteered at Sick Kids Hospital, participated in blood drives, and signed up as a future organ donor.

It was also during his time at WLU that he taught himself to become a barber, a skill which would soon become his vocation.

Upon graduation, he started working with incarcerated youth at the Roy McMurtry Youth Centre in Brampton, teaching life skills and financial literacy while honing his hair-cutting craft.

Johnson obtained his hair-cutting license after graduating from WLU.

From there, he became a travel barber working in London, Toronto, New York, Atlanta, and Miami.

In 2022, he founded his own company called ChairLinks, which matches up numerous barbers and stylists with vacant chairs in different salons and barbershops across Canada, thus filling the needs of both workers and owners.

Johnson and his associates have provided their services to the Toronto Argos, the Montreal Alouettes, the Canada National U18 and +21 men’s basketball teams, national basketball teams from numerous nations, the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team, the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York City Fashion Show.
