Beyond February: Josh Alexander

Laurier football alum Josh Alexander with family at a Buffalo Bills game.Josh Alexander was raised in Kitchener, Ontario. He attended Eastwood Collegiate Institute, where he played football under Ron VanMoerkerke, the Golden Hawks' defensive coordinator and associate head coach.

Alexander played defensive tackle for Laurier from 1999 to 2003 and was named an OUA all-star three times. 

In 2001, Alexander won the Russ Jackson award, given to the U Sports football player best exemplifying the attributes of academic achievement, football skill, and citizenship.

He later rejoined the Golden Hawks as an offensive line and special teams coach. He is now a teacher and football coach at Laurel Heights Secondary School. He has also started a business venture with former teammates from Eastwood and Laurier, manufacturing and selling corn hole boards.

Alexander is the older brother of fellow Golden Hawks football standout Jessie Alexander. Josh now resides in Waterloo with his wife Jillian and his two sons, Noah and Isaac.
