Beyond February: Yannick Carter
Yannick Carter played linebacker for the Golden Hawks from 2003 to 2006.
He was a Yates Cup champion in 2004 & 2005 and a Vanier Cup champion in 2005. In 2006, he was a 1st Team All Canadian and he lead the nation in sacks. He was also 2nd Team OUA All Star in 2005. Twice he represented Laurier in the East-West Bowl game.
In 2007, he was a third round draft pick of the Saskatchewan Roughriders (20th overall) and he became a Grey Cup Champion in his rookie year. After playing 2 seasons there, he suited up for 4 seasons with the  Hamilton Ti-Cats.
In 2013, he joined the Calgary Stampeders, where he played his final 2 seasons. He finished his career the same way he started it: as a Grey Cup Champion! During his time in Calgary, he shaved off his signature dreadlocks to raise over $15 000 for the Canadian Cancer Society and more recently addressed the current roster via a Zoom with a powerful message of hope and camaraderie.
The proud father of two young girls, Carter still remains in Calgary working as a police officer.
