Beyond February: Hugh Lawson

Hugh Lawson headshotHugh Lawson played defensive end for the Hawks in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was a key member of the 1991 Vanier Cup Championship team. During his career as a student-athlete, he was a CIS All-Canadian and a three-time OUAA all-star. He was also nominated for the JP Metras Award as the nation’s top lineman. During that time, he also served as a university residence don. 

After a short stint in the CFL with the Toronto Argos once he graduated from Laurier, Lawson began a highly successful business career. For 13 years, he was the Director of Business Development at Staples. In 2022, Lawson took on roles as the Head of Business Development at EHN Canada, Senior Advisor with Northfind Management, an advisor with eQuo, and Chief Development Officer of HILCO; a charitable organization that he founded to help provide opportunities and financial resources for young men and women to pursue their aspirations in higher education.

Lawson continues to actively support Laurier football, serving as a mentor to past and current players. His volunteer efforts in numerous areas of his community have also improved the lives of many individuals.
