LONDON, Ont. - Laurier's cross-country teams traveled to London for their first meet of the season on Saturday for the Vigars & Salter Western Invitational.
Over the hilly 8-kilometre course at Thames Valley Golf Club, the teams competed in a field that included some of the best teams in U SPORTS.
The men's team kicked off the Golden Hawk charge, pack running the first couple of kilometres of the "rust-buster" to finish 10th overall.
Nathan Lemire led the squad, finishing 73rd, followed closely by
Tyler Klazek at 82nd,
Om Nathwani at 94th,
Holden Lamont at 100th, and
Jack Lazear at 105th, rounding out the five men's scorers.
All five scorers are in their second or third year of eligibility.
The women's side rounded out the Golden Hawk campaign, pack running to a 10th-place team finish that was led by
Rosalind Thompson at 77th, and followed closely by
Brooklyn Ralph at 78th,
Tegan Ceccanese at 81st,
Alice Roy at 83rd, and
Ava D'arminio at 88th.
Four of the top five scoring women are in their first or second year competing for the Golden Hawks, posing a bright future for distance running at Laurier.
The team will look to regroup for the Don Mills Classic, hosted by the University of Waterloo on Saturday, October 3rd.
The men's six-kilometre meet will begin at 10 am with the women's race slated for 10:45 am at Columbia Lake.
