WINDSOR, Ont. — The Golden Hawks men's hockey team fell 4-1 to the Windsor Lancers on Wednesday at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Centre, battling throughout but unable to overcome a two-goal first period deficit.
Windsor struck twice in the opening frame to take control. Aaron Shaw opened the scoring at 14:25, finishing a play set up by Brady Hinz and Stef Dobrich.
The Lancers doubled their lead at 19:36 on the power play when Ray Hamlin converted from Dylan Schives and Colton Smith, capitalizing on a Laurier tripping minor to Ethan Szabo at 18:50.
Laurier responded in the second period. After killing off early penalties and navigating a physical stretch that featured coincidental roughing minors at 16:42, the Golden Hawks broke through while shorthanded.
Ty Petrou scored at 17:53, finishing a setup from Callum Chisholm and Nolan Bettens to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into the third.
The Lancers restored their two-goal cushion late in regulation. Alex Cunningham scored at 16:11 of the third, assisted by Dobrich and Hamlin. Colton Smith added an empty-net goal at 18:37 to seal the 4-1 result.
