WATERLOO, Ont. - Laurier captain
Ashley Greco and graduating defender
Taya Johnson have been named Ontario University Athletics women's soccer all-stars, the conference announced Tuesday.
Greco earned first team all-star honours for the second straight season after finishing third in the OUA scoring race with 11 goals. The Kinesiology and Physical Education student also led the West Division in goals, assists (six) and points (17), while ranking fourth in the conference in the latter two categories.
The veteran midfielder recorded six multi-point matches, including two three-point performances, and scored a pair of game-winning goals to help lead the Golden Hawks during a successful 2026 campaign.
"She's been our captain and leader for the last year and even since she's arrived, she's been a quiet leader," said Laurier head coach
Barry MacLean. "She's always the hardest-working player on the pitch and puts ridiculous effort into everything that she does."
MacLean credited Greco's offensive breakout to years of work on her finishing and ball striking, describing her as "a complete player" whose contributions extend well beyond the scoresheet.
Johnson was selected to the OUA first team after earning second-team honours in 2025 and sharing Laurier's co-MVP award last season. The defender and sociology major completed her final campaign with two goals in 11 matches while anchoring the Golden Hawks' back line.
"Taya's just an athletic force," said MacLean. "She's got good size, she's great aerially, she's quick and tough, defensively sound. She's a complete defender."
MacLean said Johnson's ability to neutralize top attackers and contribute on both attacking and defensive set pieces makes her one of the conference's most unique defenders.
"Every player on the team loves her," he added. "She's like a mother bear on many levels, but she's also fierce. She's a quiet leader that goes about her business and everybody has a great deal of respect for her."
