TORONTO, Ont. - Three Golden Hawk rookies potted their first goals in the OUA as the Golden Hawks took game two of their Toronto road trip 4-1 over the York Lions Saturday night.
The win improves the Golden Hawks' record to 3-2-1, which is good enough for second in the OUA West six games into the 2026-27 season.
Laurier rookies
Colin Maund,
Aiden O'Toole and
Spencer Caines all scored their first career OUA goals in Saturday night's game, with Maund and Caines both recording assists on multi-point efforts. O'Toole's goal was assisted by
Sam Tonelli, another rookie Golden Hawk picking up his first career point in the OUA tonight.
Laurier netminder Tristan Malbouef had 31 saves on 32 shots, which marks his third 30-plus save effort in as many starts.
The Golden Hawks wasted no time getting things started as
Colin Maund would score the game's first goal three minutes into the first period, and
Aiden O'Toole would add another tally less than a minute later, capitalizing on a loose puck that got away from Lions netminder Dawson Smith.
The second period saw little action compared to the first, but
Bryce Sutherland added a goal of his own to the pile, making for his third of the season and the third of the game to send the Golden Hawks into the third period up 3-0.
The Lions would strike early in the third period with Nich McKee, who bumped the Lions back to within two, but the Golden Hawks held, adding the icebreaker courtesy of
Spencer Caines to ice the game at 4-1.
The Golden Hawks outshot the Lions 35-32, while picking up two trips to the penalty box compared to York's one.
The victory puts the Golden Hawks level with the Lions on season matchups at 1-1 after the Lions defeated the Golden Hawks at home earlier this season.
Catch the Golden Hawks in action next Thursday, October 29, at the Waterloo Memorial Rec Complex, where they will face the Western Mustangs at 7:00 pm.
