Jaxon Stebbings have been named Laurier football Players of the Week, presented by Nothers The Award Store, after the Golden Hawks' 68-8 Senior Day victory over the Carleton Ravens on Saturday.
Russell, a third-year business major from Hamilton, Ont., earned offensive honours after leading Laurier to its highest-scoring output of the season.
The first-year starting quarterback completed 24 of 30 pass attempts for 410 yards and three touchdowns while not throwing an interception. His 410-yard performance helped power a Golden Hawks offence that amassed 744 total yards and scored touchdowns on nine different drives.
Russell spread the ball around effectively throughout the afternoon, connecting with three receivers who finished with more than 100 receiving yards. He opened the scoring with a nine-yard touchdown pass to
Ryan Hughes before adding touchdown strikes to
Logan Moore and
Tayshaun Jackson.
The performance marked Russell's first career 400-yard passing game and helped Laurier improve to 3-4 heading into a must-win regular-season finale against Western.
Pauletic takes home defensive player of the week honours after helping anchor a Laurier defence that limited the Ravens to just eight points and 251 yards of total offence.
The second-year sociology major from Cambridge, Ont. recorded 2.5 tackles as the Golden Hawks controlled play from start to finish.
Pauletic and the Laurier defence helped hold Carleton's offensive attack scoreless over the final two quarters and to its second-lowest offensive output this season.
Stebbings earns special teams honours after making an impact in multiple phases of the game during Saturday's victory.
The fourth-year receiver from Surrey, BCÂ was a key contributor on Laurier's return units while also making his presence felt offensively. Stebbings hauled in four receptions for 52 yards, including a 17-yard catch that helped set up a late first-half touchdown.
His contributions helped the Golden Hawks maintain strong field position throughout the afternoon as Laurier controlled all facets of the game in the team's final regular-season home contest.
