Box Score WINDSOR, Ont. - The #10-ranked Windsor Lancers used a strong first half to pull away from Laurier and went on to a 68-41 victory over the Golden Hawks on Saturday afternoon at the Toldo Lancer Centre.
The Lancers opened the game with a 20-8 first-quarter advantage, limiting Laurier to 3-of-18 shooting. Brittyn Graves scored early for the Golden Hawks, while Keira Aikman provided energy on the glass, but Windsor controlled the tempo and built momentum at the free-throw line.
Windsor extended its lead in the second quarter, outscoring Laurier 24-13 to take a 44-21 advantage into halftime.
Jade Hunte and Mackenzie Fineman scored in the paint for the Lancers, while Laurier's lone three-pointer of the half came from Alexa Burtenshaw. Windsor capitalized on turnovers and rebounds, finishing the half with a 13-point edge on the glass.
Laurier responded with its strongest stretch in the third quarter, outscoring Windsor 18-13. Kate White and Maya Fuerth connected early to cut into the deficit, while Martina Errazo helped facilitate the offense.
Despite the push, Windsor maintained control and carried a 57-39 lead into the final period.
The Golden Hawks struggled offensively in the fourth quarter, shooting 1-of-14 from the field, as Windsor closed the game on an 11-2 run. The Lancers finished with a 57-44 rebounding advantage and held Laurier to 26.2 per cent shooting from the floor.
Graves led Laurier with eight points, while White added seven points and a team-high nine rebounds. Aikman finished with six points and eight rebounds, and Kaylee Chapman added six points off the bench.
Windsor was led by Julia Chiarot and Kali Grootenboer with 11 points each. Jade Hunte and Mackenzie Fineman contributed 10 points apiece off the bench, as the Lancers received 34 bench points in the win.
