WATERLOO, Ont. - The Golden Hawkss and Lakehead Thunderwolves continued their run of tight contests Friday night, with the Golden Hawks falling 3-2 in overtime on at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.

With the two teams facing each other in back-to-back games last weekend, Laurier was looking to build on having taken three of a possible four points. 

Lucas Chard opened the scoring at 6:05 of the first period, finishing his own rebound after a setup from Thomas Lenart. Lakehead answered late in the frame as Josh Van Unen tied the game at 18:36.

After a scoreless second period, Laurier regained the lead midway through the third when Callum Chisholm scored with assists from David Paglia and Ethan Szabo.

The Golden Hawks held off multiple Thunderwolves power plays, but Lakehead broke through with the man advantage at 15:00 as Naaman Hofer forced overtime.

Lakehead ended the game 3:11 into the extra frame when Keighan Gerrie scored an unassisted goal.

Tristan Malboeuf made 54 saves for Laurier, which marked a career-high and the fifth-highest total for a single game in program history.

Carson Cherepak stopped 30 shots for Lakehead.

Laurier (10-5-3-1) earned a point in the standings and will look to build on the performance as the playoff race tightens when they welcome the Guelph Gryphons (10-7-2-0) to town on Sunday.
