Golden Hawks drop third in a row after 2-1 road loss to Windsor

WINDSOR, Ont. - Laurier's men's soccer team battled hard but ultimately fell 2–1 to the Windsor Lancers on Saturday afternoon in a spirited OUA contest.

Windsor struck first in the opening half when Robert Oates finished a setup from Nico Fontecha in the 15th minute.

Laurier pressed for a response with several chances, including shots from Luigi Bello and Maksym Telishchuk, but Windsor goalkeeper Nicholas Zanin stood tall to keep the Hawks off the board.

The Lancers carried their 1–0 advantage into halftime despite a late surge of corner kicks from Laurier.

The Lancers doubled their lead early in the second half as Omar Soufan capitalized on a pass from Fontecha in the 49th minute, pushing the score to 2–0.

Laurier answered quickly this time though, when captain Sam Ghouli converted a penalty kick for his second goal of the season just two minutes later, cutting the deficit in half and reigniting the Hawks' momentum.

The purple and gold pressed relentlessly in the final half-hour, with Bello, Leonardo Takahashi, and Arjan Khela testing Zanin, who turned aside every attempt.

Despite generating multiple corner kicks and pushing numbers forward, the Hawks couldn't find the equalizer.

The match closed with Laurier on the front foot but unable to break through Windsor's organized defense and strong goaltending.

With the loss, the Golden Hawks now sit a point behind the Lancers in the OUA West standings in seventh place.
