WATERLOO, Ont. -- The Golden Hawks men's hockey team is pleased to announce the two newest additions to the roster for the 2025-26 season. These student-athletes bring power and speed to both ends of the ice.
Name: Travis Verbeek
Position: Forward
Prior Team: Whitecourt Wolverines
Hometown: Flesherton, Ont.
Verbeek is another forward that the Golden Hawks coaching staff believes will fit right in with the attack. In the AJHL, one of Canada's tougher Junior leagues, he averaged over a point per game during his two seasons with the Wolverines, posting 14 goals, 23 assists, and 37 points this past year.
He can create chances off the rush, finish in tight, and is a consistent shooter, making him a danger in the offensive zone, something Forrest said the team needs more of.
Verbeek brings a business-like approach to every shift and game, filling the Golden Hawks' need for speed 5-on-5 and the man advantage.
Name: David Paglia
Position: Defense
Prior Team: Stouffville Spirit
Hometown: King City, Ont.
Following suit with the offensive theme this recruiting year, Paglia is an offensive defenseman who will bring a noticeable two-way presence to the lineup.
"While he's reliable and physical in his zone, his ability to contribute offensively stands out with a powerful one-timer that's a real weapon from the point," Forrest said.
His offensive contribution is selective and timely, showing his ability to read and anticipate plays. Paglia finished the OJHL regular season with 10 goals and 34 assists; his 44 points put him eighth in the standings among defensemen.
Along with his strength on the ice, Forrest said he is "an even more impressive young man when you sit down and talk to him," as he was presented with the OJHL Humanitarian of the Year award.
Paglia discussed his decision to join the Golden Hawks.
"Choosing Laurier was a no-brainer in my decision for the next step in my career. The coaching staff believes in my potential and I'm excited to grow with a group that pushes each other to be better every day."
