Beyond February: Brandon Omonuwa

Brandon Omonuwa played high school football at Martingrove Collegiate Institute in Toronto and competed in summer league football with the Etobicoke Eagles before joining the Laurier Golden Hawks in 2018.

The  6'3", 280-pound defensive tackle suited up for Laurier through the 2023 season, appearing in 34 games over his career while earning a degree in criminology. Omonuwa recorded 43 solo tackles and 56 assisted tackles, including 10 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks.

Omonuwa was named the Laurier football Defensive Player of the Week four times during his career. He also earned OUA Defensive Player of the Week honours following a key 21–14 semifinal victory over Windsor in 2023. In that game, Omonuwa tallied three solo tackles and five assists, including a crucial tackle for loss on Windsor’s attempted game-tying drive late in the contest.

In his final season with the Golden Hawks, Omonuwa was named an OUA second team all-star and a U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian.

Following graduation, Omonuwa pursued a career in law enforcement. He is currently a constable with the Peel Regional Police and is the father of a young son.
