BURLINGTON, Ont. - Laurier receiver Ryan Hughes has been named an OUA Athlete of the Week along with Toronto soccer players Hannah Chown and Alexei Ivanov, and Juliet Redelaar of York field hockey for the period ending November 2, 2025.

Hughes was a big reason why the Laurier Golden Hawks are heading to a third-straight Yates Cup and look to defend their 2025 championship title.

With the team's top receiver Ethan Jordan out of the line-up for the semifinal match-up against the Guelph Gryphons, Hughes, a third-year arts major from Mississauga, Ont., provided some continuity for quarterback Cal Wither.

Recording a game-high nine receptions, he also logged a season-high 161 yards through the air and gathered in two scores. One of his touchdowns coming on a 53-yard connection - to pace the Laurier offence in a 37-30 win over the visiting Gryphons.
