WATERLOO, Ont. - The Golden Hawks closed out their preseason in dominant fashion, cruising to a 5-0 shutout win over TMU. The victory marked their second straight shutout and fifth win of the exhibition schedule.Â
Abby Glandon opened the scoring in the first period, while Elle Spencer doubled the lead in the second. Laurier poured it on in the third, with goals from Ella Jackson, Clara Chisholm, and Sydney Brooks to seal the result.Â
Nine different Golden Hawks found their way onto the score sheet, with four players recording multi-point efforts in Sydney Brooks (1G, 1A), Olivia MacMillan (2A), Spencer (1G, 1A), and Chisholm (1G, 1A).
Between the pipes, last year's U SPORTS All-Rookie selection Sarah Howell earned the start. Though lightly tested, she turned aside all seven shots she faced to notch her first shutout of the preseason.Â
With the exhibition slate complete, Laurier now shifts their focus to the regular season. They'll open on the road on Wednesday, October 8 against Highway 7 rivals, the Guelph Gryphons, with puck drop set for 7:00 pm at the Gryphon Centre Arena.Â
The Golden Hawks return to Sun Life Financial Arena on October 17, when they host the Nipissing Lakers at 7:00 pm.Â
