Golden Hawks secure first preseason victory 77–64 over Memorial

WATERLOO, Ont. - The Golden Hawks women's basketball team opened their 2025–26 preseason campaign with a 77–64 win over Memorial University Sea-Hawks on Sunday afternoon at the Athletic Complex in Waterloo. 

Laurier's offense was led by Martina Errazo, who matched a game-high with 17 points, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. She also contributed three rebounds in 29 minutes of play.

Brittyn Graves added 15 points and two rebounds, while Maya Fuerth contributed 13 points and three rebounds. Isabella Cotton chipped in with 11 points and two rebounds.

Defensively, the Hawks held Memorial to 47.8% shooting from the field and 35.3% from three-point range.

Laurier also dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Sea-Hawks 21–7 overall.

Memorial's offense was paced by Amelia Mitchell, who scored 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 1-of-1 from three-point range.

Serena Phillips added 13 points, while Laura Murray and Carly Norris each contributed nine points. Despite their efforts, Memorial struggled with turnovers, committing 10 compared to Laurier's seven.

The win evens the Golden Hawks's preseason record to 1-1 and the team will look to build on the performance as they prepare for the 37th Annual Darcel Wright Memorial Classic hosted by TMU in Toronto.

Laurier's first game of the tournament is on Thursday against the Saskatchewan Huskies. Tip-off at the Mattamy Athletic Centre is scheduled for 4pm. Fans can catch all the action live on OUA.tv
