WATERLOO, Ont. — The Guelph Gryphons scored three times in the second period on their way to a 4–1 win over Laurier in OUA men's hockey action Friday night at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
The loss snapped the Golden Hawks' six-game winning streak to start the season, which was their longest since 1993.Â
After a scoreless first, Guelph's Nolan Dann opened the scoring just 20 seconds into the second period on a power play, and Chase Lammi doubled the lead less than five minutes later.
Laurier's Ethan Szabo responded at 6:59, finishing off a setup from Max-Antoine Melancon and Luke Della Croce for his first OUA goal to cut the deficit to one.
Julien Gervais restored the two-goal cushion for Guelph midway through the frame with another power-play tally, while Kaeden Johnston added some insurance early in the third.
The Gryphons, who went 2-for-5 on the power play, held Laurier scoreless on two man-advantage opportunities.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Golden Hawks, who still sit atop the OUA West standings at 6-1, as they head into a matinee match-up in London against the Western Mustangs on Saturday.Â
Puck drop at Thompson Arena is set for 3 pm and will be streamed live on OUA.tv
