WATERLOO, Ont. - The second half of the Golden Hawks' season began on Friday night like the first one ended:Â with a shutout defeat on home turf. This time, it was the Guelph Gryphons handing the squad a 1-0 defeat.
In what turned out to be a defensive chess match, both teams combined for just three shots over 90 minutes.
However, it was the Gryphons' goal-scoring king who provided the checkmate move. Matthew Glavanov added to his team-leading goal tally in the 70th minute with his fourth of the season, which eventually became the game-winner.
The Highway 7 rivals combined for four yellow cards, with one being shown to Gyrphons keeper Nicholas Potalivo and Laurier's
Adriano Colangelo five minutes into second-half injury time.
With the defeat, the Golden Hawks drop to 3-3-1 but still sit fifth in the OUA West on 10 points - one above the division's final playoff spot.

Kickoff at the Gryphon Soccer Complex is set for 1 pm.
