WATERLOO, Ont. - Laurier delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over rivals the Waterloo Warriors in the second tilt of the Battle of Waterloo derby at Warrior Field.
The game was a physical contest, featuring multiple yellow cards, but Laurier's sharp attack and solid defence sealed the clean sheet.
The first half saw the Golden Hawks come out strong, firing several shots on goal.
Laurier's pressure paid off just before halftime when Leonardo Takahashi found the back of the net at the 44-minute mark. That came about 20 minutes after Takahashi ended up in the referee's book earlier for a hard foul, which added some intensity to the game.
In the second half, Laurier maintained control, adding a second goal in the 72nd minute thanks to a brilliant finish by Sam Ghouli.
Â
Waterloo struggled to keep pace, managing only two shots on goal in the half.
Tensions continued to rise as Adam Shaikh from Waterloo received a yellow card in the 54th minute while Laurier's Nicholas Waplak also found himself in the referee's book in the 79th.
Laurier's Andrea Chiechi capped off the dominant performance with his first goal of the season, scoring the third goal in the 83rd minute for Laurier, sealing the win.
Â
Laurier ended the game with 13 shots on target, while Waterloo managed just five.
With this win, Laurier swept this year's Battle of Waterloo and sit fourth in the OUA West but just three points behind first-place York - who are equal on games played.
