GUELPH, Ont. – The Golden Hawks took to the road on Wednesday to take on the Guelph Gryphons. Though the Golden Hawks fought hard they had a weaker game and unfortunately bounced back too late, losing the game 68-52, breaking their four-game win streak.
The first quarter of the game started relatively slow for the Golden Hawks who were able to bank 17 points. Veteran player Cassidy Hirtle led the team in scoring for the quarter, getting six points in seven minutes, two of which being free throws. Miranda Campbell, Alexa Sawchuck and Brittyn Graves all also put points on the board in the quarter. When the quarter drew to a close, the Gryphons led 24-17 over the Golden Hawks.
The second quarter was the lowest scoring quarter of the game for the Golden Hawks, who were only able to get 9 points in the 10 minutes, five of which were from third-year gaurd Emmanuelle Felix. Meanwhile Guelph guard Renee Armstrong had five blocks in the quarter, really making the Golden Hawks work for possession.
The third quarter of play marked the beginning of the Golden Hawks attempted comeback, led by Miranda Campbell who put eight of the Golden Hawks' 14 points on the board. The Golden Hawks were also able to click into a more solid defensive game which was evident in the close scoring quarter of 17-14.
Coming into the fourth and final quarter we got a glimpse of the determined Golden Hawks squad that won their last four, dominating play and outscoring the Gryphons 12-6. The Golden Hawks were on such a roll that the Guelph team had to sub all starting players back onto the court in an effort to hold the score. Despite their best efforts, the Golden Hawks were unable to catch the Gryphons lead and the game ended with a final score of 68-52.

#4 – Renee Armstrong
Armstrong put in a truly impressive defensive performance in tonight's game, putting up 6 strong blocks, 5 of which were in the second quarter which helped her team build the lead that won them the game. She also had 13 points and led her teams in rebounds (9) and assists (5).
Laurier Golden Hawks
#14 – Miranda Campbell
Campbell was a pivotal player in today's game for the Golden Hawks. She was able to drive throughout the critical third quarter which stood as a turning point for her team. Banking 14 points and 5 rebounds, Campbell was a strong, motivational player who was there for her team when needed.
