WATERLOO, Ont. - The Laurier men's soccer team was in action for their opening weekend Battle of Waterloo derby against the Waterloo Warriors. The first game, taking place at Warrior Field on Friday night, didn't go well for the Golden Hawks as they fell 7-2.
Waterloo jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and held that advantage for the duration of the first half. Laurier got one back with
Leonardo Takahashi's first career OUA goal in his first game, however, Waterloo followed it up with two more of their own to make it a 7-1 game.
Baden Beckles got his first career OUA goal to make it a 7-2 game late in the second half to round out the scoring.
Despite an improved defensive effort in the second leg of the home-and-home on Sunday afternoon, Laurier couldn't generate enough offence in a 3-0 loss.
The first half of the rematch looked promising, with Laurier playing lockdown defence and maintaining a scoreless draw after 45 minutes. However, in the second half, Waterloo broke the stalemate and buried two quick goals before adding one more to provide the final 3-0 advantage.
