LONDON, Ont. - Laurier's men's soccer team played their second game against the Western Mustangs Sunday afternoon, hoping to have a better match than their 5-0 loss on Friday. While hopes were high for a better outcome, the Golden Hawks lost 2-0 and extended their winless start to the season to four games.
The match started well, with Laurier almost holding Western scoreless through the first half, but Western quickly changed that by scoring just before the halftime whistle with a tally by Patrick Melo in the 45th minute.
Laurier wasn't able to record any shots during the first half of the match and, unfortunately, the second half did not go very well for the Golden Hawks either as they were only able to get one ball on the Western goalkeeper.Â
Western extended their lead to 2-0 in the 57th minute thanks to Ehsan Sirji and maintained that lead for the rest of the match.Â
The Golden Hawks were not able to get their offence rolling, finishing the game with one shot on target compared to Western's 11.Â
Jefferey Omoregie-Sanni recorded nine saves on the afternoon.
