COLOGNE, Germany – Laurier men's basketball alum Ali Sow is heading overseas.
 
Having signed his first pro contract in May with the Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), Sow agreed to terms this past week with RheinStars Köln – a third-tier squad in Germany's 12-team ProB league.
 
"I feel very blessed and grateful to have this opportunity with the RheinStars and show what I can do," said Sow. "I'm excited to keep pushing on my professional basketball journey."
 
During his final season with the Golden Hawks, he finished second in the OUA and third in U SPORTS scoring, averaging 25.4 points per game. He was also in the top five nationally for minutes played and assists per game.
 
In limited action with the Rattlers, the Ottawa, Ont. native averaged 2.8 points, 1.1 assists, and 13 minutes played in 15 games.
 
"Ali is fast, very athletic, and is just as good a scorer as he is a passer," said RheinStars manager Stephan Baeck. "He also defends with a lot of energy. We believe that … he will be able to play in a versatile way, which will benefit our game plan."
 
Sow joins a RheinStars squad looking for a bounce-back season after finishing the 2021/22 campaign 7-15 and in 11th place.
 
The 2022/23 regular season gets underway on October 2 at home against RASTA Vechta II.
