The Low Down

  • After a dominating 103-72 win at home over Western in the first round of the OUA playoffs, Laurier will be on the road Saturday to face the Brock Badgers in the West division semi-final at 2 PM.
  • The Badgers finished the season as the division's top seed with a record of 14-1, earning a first-round playoff bye.

Last Playoff Meeting

  • The last playoff meeting between these two teams came in the second round of the 2018 OUA playoffs, with the host Badgers winning 91-73.
  • Ali Sow, Ben Stevens, and Adnan Begovic are the only current Golden Hawks players left from the 2018 team, while Chuder Teny now serves as an Assistant Coach.

Season Series

  • Brock and Laurier played a home-and-home series to open the regular season, with the Badgers winning both games; 98-77 and 95-74.
  • Ali Sow had a team-high 30 points in both games, though Brock's excellent defence prevented the Golden Hawks from generating much offence.
  • Tajinder Lall, who finished third in the OUA with 22.9 points per game this season - one spot behind Sow - scored a game-high 31 in the second game.

By The Numbers

  • Brock scored more than any other team in Ontario this season. Their 93.1 points per game were more than five points ahead of the number two offence, Carleton. Laurier has a slight edge in field goal percentage (69.1% to 68.9%).
  • Brock's 43.2 rebounds per game placed them second in the OUA, while Laurier's 38.3 was good for ninth.
  • Both teams were near the top of the conference defensively, with third-place Brock allowing just 74 points per game compared to seventh-place Laurier's 79.4.

Players To Watch

  • Laurier's Ben Stevens went off for a season-high 22 points and 15 rebounds against Western, including a solo 8-0 run to start the game.
  • Fifth-year guard Ali Sow had an impressive game Wednesday as well, recording 22 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
  • As well as taking on tough defensive assignments, Kareem Elliott matched his career-high of 12 points against Western, while shooting 71% from the field.
  • In addition to his scoring prowess, Brock's Lall placed eighth in the OUA with 8.1 rebounds per game this season.

While the Golden Hawks may be the underdogs heading into Saturday's game, they've been one of the OUA's hottest teams since the holiday break, winning eight of their last ten regular-season games.

After witnessing Wednesday's effort against Western, it's hard not to believe this Laurier team could beat just about anyone.
