WATERLOO, Ont. – Coming back from a 1-0 loss last night against the Waterloo Warriors, Laurier women's hockey team waere looking to rewrite the narrative during the second game of a double-header this weekend. Despite putting up a good fight, the Hawks were defeated 3-0 by the Warriors and will not be leaving the rink with any points this weekend.
The first period gave the Warriors plenty of power play minutes, putting the pressure on Laurier's goaltender,
Cohen Myers (Shakespeare, Ont.). Not surprisingly, Myers was able to effectively defend the Hawks' net and keep the score 0-0 until the end of the first period.
Once again in the second period, the Warriors led shot clock and did an outstanding job killing off multiple penalties. With 8:30 to go, Tatum James (Stratford, Ont.) scored her first of the season, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Kassidy McCarthy (Bowmanville, Ont.) wasted no time giving Waterloo a 2-0 lead to finish off the second period.
The third period started slow, with both teams showing some fatigue. The majority of the period remained scoreless, up until the Hawks decided to pull their goalie with only a minute and a half to go. The Warriors took their ninth penalty of the game, giving Laurier a 6-on-4 advantage for the remaining minute of the game. Carley Olivier (Sudbury, Ont.) scored a short-handed, empty-net goal with 30-seconds left to solidify the win for the Warriors.
