TMU hands Golden Hawks fourth one-goal loss of the season

TORONTO, Ont. - Laurier headed to the Mattamy Athletic Centre in downtown Toronto on Saturday night in search of their first win of the season but were defeated 2-1 by the Toronto Metropolitan Bold.

Laurier opened the scoring for the second game in a row as Steph Caleca sent a pass to Chloe Davidson then turned a defender inside out before sending a shot over the blocker of TMU's goaltender.

Golden Hawk goaltender Acadia Carlson turned away all ten shots sent her way in the first period and Laurier headed into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.

Two minutes into the second period, TMU's Olivia Giodetti put the puck past Carlson on a breakaway, tying the game at one.

In their last meeting, TMU scored three unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the Golden Hawks 3-1 but Laurier's penalty kill and Carlson shut down TMU's opportunities and headed into the final frame even at one.

TMU broke the tie when Madison Lalonde capitalized on a two-on-one opportunity assisted by Emily Baxter, taking a 2-1 lead midway through the third.

Laurier surged in the third period in an attempt to even the game, as they outshot TMU 13-4 in the final frame, but Alexia Stratos shut the door and sealed the 2-1 victory for the Bold.

Laurier's penalty kill continues to be perfect, having not sacrificed a power-play goal in the last four games. And despite themselves going 0 for 4 on the power-play, the offence is beginning to heat up as they have scored four goals in their last three games.

Acadia Carlson continues her stellar play, turning away 24 of the 26 shots she faced and posting a 0.926 save percentage.

Laurier looks to build off of these recent successes to get their first win on Thursday when they host Ontario Tech at the Sunlife Financial Arena at 7:00 pm.
