Hope Windebank named OUA all-star

BURLINGTON, Ont. - The OUA released its list of major award winners and all-stars for the 2022 season on Wednesday and among the players selected was Laurier midfielder Hope Windebank.

Windebank, a fifth-year student-athlete from Markham, Ont., was the lone representative from the Golden Hawks and named an OUA second-team all-star.

It's the first time in her career that the criminology major has been named a conference all-star, but it was certainly deserving as she led her team in goals (four), game winning goals (two), assists (four), and points. Her goal tally also accounted for 20% of her team's entire offensive output during the regular season.

Windebank was also very reliable, having appeared in all 12 of her team's regular season matches.

Her best offensive game of the season occurred in late September against Windsor. Facing the Lancers on the road, Windebank recorded a three-point game with two goals and an assist.

Laurier's women's soccer head coach Barry MacLean commented how Windebank made "a huge impact on Laurier soccer while growing as a player and leader every season."

"Her work ethic and competitive attitude are the hallmarks of Hope and her speed and fitness are unparalled," said MacLean. "Hope was involved in a high percentage of Laurier goals this season and will be sorely missed."

To that point, Windebank also conveyed how much pride she felt being a part of the women's varsity program, having made the team as a walk-on in 2018.

"I hope I left an impact for those who will continue at Laurier. I'm honoured and grateful to have been in the position I was because my environment really shaped me for the better.

"I give thanks to not only the team but also the staff for everything they have done on our behalf. I wish nothing but success for future Golden Hawks."
