TORONTO, Ont. - The Laurier Golden Hawks defeated the  #5 Toronto Metropolitan University Bold 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
TMU's Zachary Shankar opened the scoring on a shot from the top of the circle on a powerplay halfway through the first.Â
The Golden Hawks would tie the game minutes later.
Matt McJannet fished the puck out of a set of feet and let go a snapshot that beat TMU goaltender Garrett Forrest for his second goal of the year.
     Â
Five minutes into the third, Laurier's
Caleb Rich fed the puck to
Conor Ali, who slid a backhand shot between the legs of Forrest for his first goal of the season, breaking the tie in favour of the Golden Hawks.
The Golden Hawks kept the heat on all period, Chase Herrfort had a chance to extend the lead late in the second but was turned away by Forrest. Forrest also made a seemingly impossible blocker save on Rich, keeping Laurier's lead at one.Â
The third period was scoreless until
Evan Benwell buried the empty netter with just under a minute left in the game. Benwell has now recorded at least in a point in five of his past six games.
Christian Propp shut the door after allowing the first goal, saving 22 of 23 shots that TMU sent his direction and getting Laurier their second win in as many days.Â
Laurier has been on a streak lately, winning four of their last five. The Golden Hawks will look to continue their success next weekend on Friday at Brock and Saturday in a rematch against TMU at the Sunlife Financial Arena.
