Box Score WATERLOO, Ont. - The Laurier Women's Basketball team was back in action Saturday night for their home opener and second matchup against the Brock Badgers. Coming off a 34-point loss on Wednesday, Laurier put up a good fight against the Badgers but still fell short, 83-67.
Laurier came out firing in the first quarter, taking a 19-15 lead with help from
Cassidy Hirtle's (Sarnia, Ont.) eight points. Laurier also tallied four steals in the first quarter.
Brock found their footing in the second, outscoring the Golden Hawks 24-14 en route to a 39-33 halftime lead. Despite shooting better from the field than Brock in the frame, seven team fouls proved to be an issue for Laurier.
Brock picked up where they left off to start the third, dominating the boards and outscoring Laurier again, 29-16 for a 68-49 lead heading into the fourth and final quarter.Â
The fourth quarter saw the Golden Hawks go on a mini-run to close out the game, however, the 19-point deficit was too much for the Hawks to overcome.
Despite the losing effort, Laurier shot much better from the field; shooting 37% - and 29% from beyond the arc.
Maddy White (Bolton, Ont.) also had a breakout night, leading the team with 17 points and adding four boards off the bench.Â

White put up 17 points on 6 for 8 shooting off the bench. Along with a great shooting performance, the first-year tallied four rebounds and a steal.
Brock Badgers

Weinert finished with a 14 point, 10 rebound double-double.
