Box Score WATERLOO, Ont. – Just days after being shut out by Laurier in their home opener, Brock returned the favour with a 2-0 win over the Golden Hawks at the Waterloo Memorial Rec Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Laurier came into the game optimistic of getting their second win of the season but were faced with an impressive OUA debut by first-year goaltender Tiffany Hsu instead.
The game began with a scoreless first period that saw equal scoring opportunities from both sides and shots essentially level at 9-8, favouring Brock.
Halfway through the second period through, Ella Krushelnicki (Grimsby, Ont.) broke open the scoring on her team's second power-play of the game. Her shot found the top-shelf past Laurier goalie Cohen Myers (Shakespeare, Ont.) to give Brock a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
Despite continued offensive pressure through the latter half of the game, Laurier was unable to get a puck through Hsu, a native of Taipei, Taiwan. Their attempt to do so with Myers pulled for an extra skater resulted in a Mishayla Christensen (Prince George, Ont.) empty-netter with 15 seconds remaining instead to secure Brock's win.
Hsu finished with 21 saves to secure her first career shutout.
After the game, Laurier head coach Kelly Paton identified the two games against the Badgers as “very similar when it comes to shot production and scoreboard results.”
“We lacked consistency in our play as a five-person unit,” she said, indictating that would be an area of focus as the team regroups during its two weeks off from game action.
