MacLean, a fourth-year communications major, was a defensive force for the Golden Hawks, playing a key shut-down role against opposing top lines. He was also instrumental on the penalty kill while logging a lot of ice time in key situations. Against the York Lions, MacLean was a +1 in 23:49 minutes of ice time while recording three hits, three shots, and three blocked shots. Taking on his hometown team in the second half of a back-to-back, MacLean logged another 24:24 minutes against the Toronto Varsity Blues. The stay-at-home defenceman had four hits, three shots and four shot blocks to finish even on the night as Laurier won 3-1 to finish 2022 a game over .500 at 8-7-1.
