
Courtney Stephen, a native of Brampton, Ont., played defensive back at Laurier for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. In that span, he recorded seven interceptions and five fumble recoveries in 19 regular season and playoff games combined.Â
As a rookie, he was a second-team OUA all-star. The following season, he was a first-team OUA all-star and a second-team CIS All-Canadian.
Following that, he played two seasons of NCAA Division 1 football at Northern Illinois. In 2012, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats made Stephen the eighth overall selection in the Canadian Football League draft. He went on to play six seasons in Hamilton before playing one in Calgary and amassed a total of 12 interceptions and seven fumble recoveries.Â
In 2021, he was hired by the Tiger-Cats as their Director of Community Partnerships. This involves creating programs to develop healthy, active, and empowered youth as well as a focusing on the importance of
equality, diversity, and inclusion.Â
